Mitie takes first IFM step in pharmaceuticals with GlaxoSmithKline
- GlaxoSmithKline Manufacturing Supply Chains has awarded Mitie a five-year contract to deliver fully integrated facilities management services in the UK & Ireland
- This is the first major fully integrated facilities management contract for Mitie within the pharmaceutical sector and will include engineering, cleaning, catering and scientific services
- Innovation will drive Mitie’s approach to the contract, with GSK benefiting from Mitie’s industry leading electric vehicle strategy
Mitie has been awarded a five-year contract with GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) Manufacturing Supply Chains, the science-led global healthcare company, following a competitive tender. The contract is worth around £150 million over five years, with an option to extend the contract for up to two years.
Designed to deliver a truly integrated facilities management offering, the new contract will cover a number of services including engineering, cleaning, catering and scientific services across eight GSK manufacturing sites in the UK and Ireland, including Barnard Castle and Ware.
For engineering services under this contract, Mitie’s risk-based maintenance excellence framework will ensure that GSK’s plant facilities and equipment are operating at maximum efficiency to support GSK’s highly regulated and frequently audited operations.
The contract includes the provision of specialist scientific services – managing specific routine laboratory processes such as the preparation of chemical and biological compounds, as well as operating, maintaining and calibrating highly-specialised laboratory instruments. These services are delivered by a highly-skilled team of specialist operatives and technicians operating in strict compliance with Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) standards within a pharmaceutical laboratory environment..
Catering services will be delivered by Mitie’s strategic catering partner, Gather & Gather. Wellbeing will be at the core of this service, with a dedicated ‘food at GSK’ website and specially designed local and seasonal menus, alongside ‘Live Well’ options. Additional self-service checkouts will be introduced at some sites to reduce queuing time and enhance customer experience.
In line with Mitie’s commitment to make 20% of its fleet of cars and small vans electric by 2020, site vehicles covered by the contract will be replaced with electric vehicles wherever possible.
Carlo Alloni, Managing Director, Technical Services and Integrated Facilities Management, said:
“We are thrilled to welcome GSK as a major pharmaceutical client, with this comprehensive integrated FM contract. This agile model has been designed to deliver more control to our customer, with excellent service underpinned by new technology which will be embedded over the lifetime of the partnership. This is a great demonstration of how our experience and expertise ensures we are able to offer services that continue to transform with our customers as their needs evolve.”
Lisa Clark, Head of FM UK & Ireland Operations, GlaxoSmithKline, said:
“We are off to a great start and excited about working in partnership with Mitie as we expect the team to help us drive facilities management in the pharmaceutical manufacturing environment to new levels. In particular, with the use of digital data analytics to improve efficiency along with Mitie’s ability to self-deliver a broad range of services to increase team flexibility and drive out unnecessary cost.”
