Mitie’s sustainability credentials recognised with top ESG ratings
- Mitie has been awarded a score of 12.5, classified as ‘low risk’, by leading ESG rating, Sustainalytics
- Mitie has also been awarded a ‘Platinum Award’, the highest ranking, from the Sustainable Facilities Management Index (SFMI) – up from the ‘Gold Award’ received last year
- Both the Sustainalytics and SFMI rankings place Mitie among the most sustainable businesses in the world, recognising its efforts to fight climate change and create a workplace that promotes inclusion
Mitie has been awarded a ranking of 12.5 by Sustainalytics, the leading environment, social and governance (ESG) rating agency. This score puts Mitie in the ‘low risk’ category and second place in the Business Support Services industry, as well as among the top 5% most sustainable businesses in the world. Achieving this ranking recognises Mitie’s commitment to fight climate change, maintain strong corporate governance and create a workplace that promotes inclusion.
While Mitie’s final Sustainalytics ranking refers to being at ‘low risk’ of any significant impacts from ESG factors, the company was awarded the highest ranking, ‘negligible risk’, in six out of the eight areas assessed. These categories include reducing carbon emissions from its operations, occupational health and safety, data privacy and security, and bribery and corruption.
In the same week, Mitie also received the highest ranking, a ‘Platinum Award’, from the Sustainable Facilities Management Index (SFMI). This sees the business jump from the ‘Gold Award’ it achieved in 2020.
The SFMI is the only sustainability benchmark for the UK’s facilities management sector. The ranking is compiled following the completion of three independent audits to assess the business’ performance across 23 criteria covering a wide range of issues, including sustainability, social value, energy, health and safety, employee development and diversity. In order to achieve the top Platinum Award, businesses must demonstrate leadership across all of these criteria, resulting in a score of 85 points or more.
Both the Sustainalytics and SFMI rankings were awarded to Mitie in recognition of its Plan Zero commitment to reach net zero carbon emissions for its operations by 2025, while using its experience and expertise to help customers become more sustainable. Mitie is also committed to creating a great place to work where all employees can bring their true selves, with its leading diversity and inclusion initiatives.
In addition to this, Sustainalytics noted Mitie’s strong ESG governance, highlighting in its rating that all ESG-related issues are overseen by Mitie’s Social Value and Responsible Business Committee, a sub committee of the Mitie Board.
“Sustainability and social value are integral to our work at Mitie, which is why we’re dedicated to making Mitie a great place to work for our people, while also protecting our planet. We’re very proud to be recognised by Sustainalytics and the Sustainable Facilities Management Index as a leading ESG business. We remain committed to supporting Britain’s decarbonisation by using our experience and expertise to help our customers achieve their own net zero ambitions.”
